幼稚園の園長集会
マラウイのせいぼチームは、チリモニ地区の５歳未満の子どもたちの給食提供における
問題の解決策についての話し合いのため、幼稚園の園長の皆様との会合に参加しました。
25校の学校の校長先生が出席し、それぞれの問題点を共有しました。
出席した25校以外にも、14校の学校がありますが、都合により出席ができませんでした。
議題として上がったこと:
せいぼの本部と連絡をより密に取る
校長先生たちは、せいぼキッズの出席状態、成長に関わる情報などを、
携帯電話を使って連絡を細かく取るように促進されました。
せいぼは、その連絡状況に合わせて、なるべく早い対応を心がけていくことが確認されました。
学校の記録台帳の使用の促進
月末に回収され、確認される子どもたちの成長記録、それぞれの幼稚園の働きの記録は、
日々の努力の結晶とも言えるものであるため、さらに積極的に活用し、記録を取っていくことになりました。
子どもたちの生年月日と成長の記録を緻密に取ることへの認識の確認
11月6日～24日において、成長記録の作業が増えたこともあり、それぞれの子どもたちの記録、
特に生年月日をしっかり記録し、保っていくことを確認しました。
在庫管理の徹底、衛生状態の確保-
給食の在庫管理の確認が行われ、先に調理したものから消費していく作業工程を確認しました。
安全性と衛生管理-
安全面を意識し、子どもたちが調理場に入らないようにとのルールについて話しました。
給食提供の量の比率について-
調理する給食の量は、提供する子どもたちの人数に留められるようにすることをもう一度話し合いました。
簡単なルールを共有しました。以下がその内容です。
1 パーラー大カップの容量– ８人分のパーラーに当たります。
1 パーラー中カップの容量- ３人分のパーラーに当たります。
といったような確認事項です。
会合の全体としては、これからも全ての子どもたちが単に学校に来ているのではなく、満腹で授業に出席でき、
その両親も喜んで子どもたちを学校に送ることができる状態を維持していきたいという話となりました。
こうした働きは、日々の一食ごとの学校給食から始まります。

Nursery School Directors Meet-Up
The Seibo Team in Malawi recently met with Seibo Nursery School Directors to discuss solutions to current issues related to school feeding to under-5’s in the Chilomoni area.
25 Schools in Attendance
The meeting had representatives from the following 25 schools: Holy Cross, Abundant Life, Pre-Mic, Future Leaders, Chilingani CBCC, Mlambe CBCC, Freedom, Gamajiu, Asira, Atamandike 1, All Saints, Tikwere, Bachi, Tilitonse CBCC, Bizzy Beez, Kriver, Chilomoni, Agape, Limbikani CBCC, Tikondane, Jami Ann Foundation, Chisomo and Ebenezer. A further 14 nursery schools were unable to attend.
Items Discussed:
Improved Communication with Seibo HQ– School directors were encouraged to use Phone and/or SMS to inform changes in school enrolment, issues related to the progress of Seibo Kids (sponsored nursery places). In turn Seibo commit to solving problems as they arise.
Encouraged Use of Registers & School Books – record books which are collected at the end of each month are invaluable to Seibo to evaluate school feeding impact.
Reminder to record DOB & Child Growth– With growth monitoring scheduled for the 6th-24th November respectively School Directors were encouraged to ensure the dates of birth of all children were recorded and accurate.
Stock Management- the concept of FIFO (First In, First Out) was once again explained to avoid any food wastage due to spoilage.
Safety & Hygiene- once again the importance of ensuring no children enter the cooking area was impressed.
School Feeding Proportions- the amount of food cooked in a day is dependent on the number of children present on any given day. As a simple rule of thumb the amount of Likuni Phala (porridge) is as follows;
1 levelled BIG cup of Phala– equivalent to meals for 8 children
1 levelled MEDIUM cup of Phala- equivalent to meals for 3 children, etc
Overall the team in Malawi are building lasting relationships with the hope that each and every child attending nursery can attend school on a full stomach but also that more and more parents can be enticed to giving their children an early years education – with a hot daily meal.
