サイクロンの影響と現地の姿

国連の発表では、モザンビークを中心に、大型のサイクロンが、
ジンバブエなどのアフリカ南部を襲い、
マラウイも甚大な被害を受けていることが報道されています。

せいぼの支援をしている幼稚園に通う、
何人かの子供たちの家庭においても、
その被害が見受けられます。
今回、その5つの例をご紹介し、現地の状態をご共有し、
私たちが日本では何ができるのかについて、
考えることができればと思います。

ルーシーちゃんの家庭

南部の幼稚園のAtamandikeに通うルーシーちゃんは、
お母さんと二人で暮らしています。
彼女のお母さんは、さらに年老いた両親と、
2人の親族の世話をしていますが、
家は度重なる雨によって、破損してしまいました。
ルーシーちゃんの祖父母の家も、同じく崩壊をしてしまい、
仕方なく、今でも壊れてしまった家に留まっています。

ルーシーちゃんのお母さんの仕事はパートタイムで、
十分な安定のある収入とはいえません。
近所の人が、彼女が働いている間は、
年老いて動けない両親の世話をしてくれることになっています。

しかし、今後サイクロンの被害から回復し、
家を建て直すのに十分な費用を確保するには、
長い時間がかかってしまいます。

2. アグネスちゃんの家庭

Future Leaders保育園に通っているアクネスちゃんも、
同じく家庭が、サイクロンによって被害に遭っています。
彼女は、お母さんと、9歳のお姉さんと生活しています。
サイクロンの被害に遭う以前から、食事には困っており、
一日食事ができないことも頻繁にありました。

こうした生活状態の中でも、家は借りることができ、
住むところはありましたが、その家さえも、
今回のサイクロンによって壊れてしまった状態です。

3. ピアナちゃんの家庭

ルーシーちゃんと同じ、Atamandike保育園に通っている、
ピアナちゃんの例も共有したいと思います。
彼女の家庭もまた、母子家庭となっており、
パートタイムの仕事で、なんとか生活をしています。
そんな中で、サイクロンによって、住む家が破壊されてしまい、
ベッドだけが無事に残りました。
そのベッドを頼りに、破壊されてしまった家に留まり、
生活を続けていますが、食べ物、衣服の援助が必要な状態です。

アリスちゃんの家庭

アリスちゃんは、Sulema保育園に通っています。
彼女は、「せいぼキッズ」として登録されており、
せいぼによって、家庭に事情により、特別に支援されています。
彼女は、お母さんと二人で生活をしています。

彼女の家庭は、6組の他の家族と共同で使用するために、
借りられたスペースであり、みんなで使っていたトイレも、
サイクロンによって、破損してしまいました。
こうしたインフラの不備によって、多くの家族とともに、
支援が必要な状態になっています。

マルタちゃんの家庭

ミラクル保育園に通っているマルタちゃんも同じく、
家庭がサイクロンで大きな被害に遭いました。
高齢のおばあちゃんの家で、現在生活しています。
雨による甚大な破損は、おばあちゃんの家にも部分的に被害があり、
大きな負担を、おばあちゃんを始めとして、
家族にかけてしまっている状態です。

現在、以上のような緊急で支援が必要な家庭に対して、
せいぼは特に食事を始めとして支援を広げています。

私たちができること
現在、皆さんによってなされる寄付は、
以上の例のような子供たちの支援に対して、
せいぼの現地スタッフを通じて、直接的に、
子どもたち、そしてその家族のために使われます。

After the Storm

The UN referred to the recent devastating cyclone to hit Malawi, Mozambique & Zimbabwe as the worst-ever disaster to strike the southern hemisphere. People are stilling getting to grips with the damage caused. Seibo staff in Malawi have been visiting the homes of nursery school children to assess the damage- and to offer help where needed. We introduce the stories of 5 nursery children all under the age of 5 who have been affected by the recent disaster. With your help we would like to help them and many more like them. Thank you.

1. Lucie’s Story

Lucie (Atamandike Nursery) lives with her mother Ndaziona. A single mom Ndaziona also looks after her aging parents & 2 relatives. On the 7th of March their house was destroyed by torrential rains. Lucie’s grandparents house was similarly destroyed so they had no choice but to remain living in their now-destroyed home. Ndaziona works part-time and does not have a stable income. Neighbours have agreed to look after her grandparents until the rains subside. They have no financial means to re-build their own house let alone their grandparents.

2. Agnes Story

Agnes (Future Leaders Nursery) aged 3 lives with her mother & her older sister Grace (9). Before the rains fell the family struggled financially and sometimes went days without food at home. They had been renting a small house near Chilomoni Nthukwa. This house is no longer standing since the rains.

3. Piana’s Story

Piana (Atamandike Nursery) has 9 siblings. Her mom is a single parent who earns an income doing piece-work when available. Their house was destroyed by the rains. Only the bedrooms were not affected so they continue to live in the house. The entire family need help with food & clothes.

4. Alice Story

Alice (Sulema Nursery) was a “Seibo Kid” from before the rains. She lives alone with her mother. Their rented house shared by 6 x families has been destroyed. The 1-shared toilet has effectively sunk. The family is in need of immediate help.
5. Martha’s Story

Martha (Miracle Nursery) lives with her mom but since the rains fell and destroyed the family home she now lives with her grandmother. Unfortunately her grandmother’s house was partially damaged by the rains too. Our Outreach team report that the family is in urgent need of food & clothes.
